How Much Do Kia Cars Weigh? (All Models)

It’s essential to know how much your car weighs, and lighter vehicles, like Kia cars, are no exception. Kia manufactures excellent cars that don’t weigh much leading to good mileage.

But the weight is also vital for safety reasons, though that isn’t something the average driver needs to be concerned about very often since the manufacturer takes care of it.

Let’s see how much Kia’s cars weigh!

The average Kia car weighs 3,525 lbs (1599 kg). The heaviest base model is the Kia EV6 at 4,661 lbs (2114 kg) and the model that weighs the least is the popular Kia Rio, with a curb weight of only 2,767 lbs (1225 kg). Kia is known for making lightweight cars, but they have introduced some heavier models in recent years.

Kia is Korea’s oldest active car manufacturer and part of the fifth-largest car manufacturing group worldwide. It’s no wonder that Kia cars are so popular.

They are lightweight and maneuverable, but much of that is because the manufacturer does so much to remove unnecessary weight.

The Weight Of Kia Cars

We will be looking at the curb weight to compare the weights of the different Kia models.

The curb weight is a reliable indicator because it measures the weight of the base model, without any additional trimmings or features, while the car is standing still.

Kia currently manufactures 12 base-model cars:

Kia Soul2,844 lbs.
Kia Seltos3,087 lbs.
Kia Sportage3,305 lbs.
Kia Sorento3,794 lbs.
Kia Carnival4,411 lbs.
Kia Telluride4,482 lbs.
Kia Niro3,117 lbs.
Kia EV64,661 lbs.
Kia Rio2,767 lbs.
Kia Forte2,769 lbs.

Kia Seltos

The Kia Seltos is an impressive SUV with the same engine as the Kia Soul. It weighs more at 3,087 lbs., contributing to a slightly lower mileage of 29 miles per gallon.

Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is a top-rated SUV in Kia’s range. It has a 2.4L engine and weighs 3,305 lbs.

The heavier weight and more powerful engine contribute to the lower mileage of 26 MPG. The Sportage is also available in both hybrid and fully electric models.

Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento is another of Kia’s SUVs that’s very popular, so much so that hybrid and electric versions are available on the market.

The base Sorento has a 2.5L engine, and its curb weight is 3,794 lbs. Incredibly, it has the same 26 MPG mileage as the lighter and less powerful Sportage.

Kia Carnival

Now we’re getting to the more powerful Kia SUVs, starting with the Kia Carnival MPV. It has a 3.5L V6 engine and weighs a whopping 4,411 lbs.

Of course, with the weight and engine, you sacrifice some mileage. It will give you approximately 22 miles per gallon.

Kia Telluride

The last and most potent of Kia’s SUVs is the Telluride. It has a 3.8L V6 engine and a curb weight of 4,482 lbs.

Despite the massive engine and weight, the Telluride will still give you 21 miles per gallon, which isn’t much, but it’s impressive compared to the lighter and less powerful Carnival.

Kia Niro

Now we get to the more economy-focused Kia cars, and the first is the Kia Niro.

It is a potent hybrid vehicle that will get you 50 miles per gallon on average, with a 1.6L gas engine and a curb weight of 3,117 lbs. There are three models of the Kia Niro to choose from, each with its features and strengths.

Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 is a fully electric car with a 320-horsepower motor, and it comes with all the pros and cons of an electric car.

On the plus side, you get the equivalent of 105 miles per gallon, but on the negative side, its batteries contribute to its 4,661 lbs. curb weight, making it the heaviest Kia car on the market.

Kia Rio

The Kia Rio is arguably Kia’s most popular sedan, and there are good reasons for that. It has a lovely 36 miles per gallon mileage and a decent 1.6L engine.

It’s one of the smallest Kia cars available and has the lowest curb weight of all Kia cars on the market, at 2,767 lbs. It is also available in a 5-door hatchback model.

Kia Forte

The Kia Forte is a relatively recent addition to the Kia range. It is the Kia sedan for those looking for a bit more luxury.

Its 2L engine will deliver 201 horsepower and 33 miles per gallon, which is not bad. Its curb weight is just slightly higher than that of the Rio, at 2,769 lbs.

Kia K5

Kia doesn’t usually give its cars sporty names like “K5,” but in this case, it’s well-deserved. The Kia K5 is a more robust and stylish sedan than the Rio or the Forte.

The sporty side is mostly in looks, though, as it only has a 1.6L engine, giving you 31 miles per gallon. It is a heavy car, though, weighing 3,228 lbs.

Kia Stinger

What the K5 lacks in performance, the Kia Stinger makes up for. It weighs 3,829 lbs. and has a 3.3L V6 engine.

This is the ultimate Kia sports sedan, but the downside is that you will only get an average of 20 miles per gallon.

Kia’s cars weigh more than people generally expect, but they are far from the heaviest cars on the market. If we compare them to one of their competitors BMW, they have an average weight of 4,276 lbs compared to Kia’s 3,525 lbs.

Even the electric models, like the EV6, aren’t as heavy as some of those from other manufacturers, despite being the heaviest Kia cars on the road.

But if you’re looking for something light and zippy, the Kia Rio is a safe bet that weighs only 2,767 lbs.

I listed the horsepower of all the available Kia cars here and the fuel economy of all their cars in this post.
