It’s essential to know how much your car weighs, and lighter vehicles, like Kia cars, are no exception. Kia manufactures excellent cars that don’t weigh much leading to good mileage.
But the weight is also vital for safety reasons, though that isn’t something the average driver needs to be concerned about very often since the manufacturer takes care of it.
Let’s see how much Kia’s cars weigh!
The average Kia car weighs 3,525 lbs (1599 kg). The heaviest base model is the Kia EV6 at 4,661 lbs (2114 kg) and the model that weighs the least is the popular Kia Rio, with a curb weight of only 2,767 lbs (1225 kg). Kia is known for making lightweight cars, but they have introduced some heavier models in recent years.
Kia is Korea’s oldest active car manufacturer and part of the fifth-largest car manufacturing group worldwide. It’s no wonder that Kia cars are so popular.
They are lightweight and maneuverable, but much of that is because the manufacturer does so much to remove unnecessary weight.
The Weight Of Kia Cars
We will be looking at the curb weight to compare the weights of the different Kia models.
The curb weight is a reliable indicator because it measures the weight of the base model, without any additional trimmings or features, while the car is standing still.
Kia currently manufactures 12 base-model cars:

Kia Rio
The Kia Rio is arguably Kia’s most popular sedan, and there are good reasons for that. It has a lovely 36 miles per gallon mileage and a decent 1.6L engine.

Kia Forte
The Kia Forte is a relatively recent addition to the Kia range. It is the Kia sedan for those looking for a bit more luxury.

Kia Forte | 2,769 lbs. | 33 miles per gallon |
Kia K5
Kia doesn’t usually give its cars sporty names like “K5,” but in this case, it’s well-deserved. The Kia K5 is a more robust and stylish sedan than the Rio or the Forte.
The sporty side is mostly in looks, though, as it only has a 1.6L engine, giving you 31 miles per gallon. It is a heavy car, though, weighing 3,228 lbs.

Kia K5 | 3,228 lbs. | 31 miles per gallon |
Kia Stinger
What the K5 lacks in performance, the Kia Stinger makes up for. It weighs 3,829 lbs. and has a 3.3L V6 engine.
This is the ultimate Kia sports sedan, but the downside is that you will only get an average of 20 miles per gallon.

Kia Stinger | 3,829 lbs. | 20 miles per gallon |
Conclusion
Kia’s cars weigh more than people generally expect, but they are far from the heaviest cars on the market. If we compare them to one of their competitors BMW, they have an average weight of 4,276 lbs compared to Kia’s 3,525 lbs.
Even the electric models, like the EV6, aren’t as heavy as some of those from other manufacturers, despite being the heaviest Kia cars on the road.
But if you’re looking for something light and zippy, the Kia Rio is a safe bet that weighs only 2,767 lbs.
I listed the horsepower of all the available Kia cars here and the fuel economy of all their cars in this post.
