How Many Bugattis Are There In The World?

Bugatti is a luxury brand among luxury sports car brands. This French luxury car manufacturer is one of the most exclusive car brands in the world, if not the most exclusive. Bugatti only produces a limited number of cars every year that can be priced in the tens of millions of dollars. So how many Bugattis are there in the world?

Since its acquisition by the Volkswagen Group, the Bugatti brand has sold around one thousand cars since 2005. Popular models like the Veyron and the Chiron have been sold in the hundreds, while other models, like the Centodieci, were more exclusive. Bugatti has also built several one-off models.

No matter how rich they are, anyone who manages to get their hands on a Bugatti deserves a pat on the back.

The luxury hyper sports car brand produces an extremely limited number of cars. Customers who manage to buy a Bugatti, irrespective of the model, need to wait several years before receiving the incredibly exclusive and fast car.

There Are Not Many Bugattis In The World

Unbeknownst to many people, Bugatti has been around since the early twentieth century. Right from the start, Bugattis were branded as beautiful but also fast cars that participated in and won races.

By the time Ettore Bugatti died in 1947, the company had just built around eight thousand cars. Since Bugatti’s death, the Bugatti brand has witnessed a few attempts at revival. The Bugattis we know and admire today are a product of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., which the Volkswagen group acquired in 1998.

Since then, Bugatti has produced a few limited yet iconic models, such as the Bugatti Veyron, Bugatti Chiron, Bugatti Divo, Bugatti Centodieci, Bugatti La Voiture Noire, and Bugatti Bolide. Some of these models have been sold in the hundreds, others only in the tens, and some were just one-offs.

By upholding its exclusivity, Bugatti maintains its status as a luxury sports car brand. Which is one of the main reasons why their cars are so expensive.

Estimating how many Bugattis remain in the world from the era before the Volkswagen group acquired the brand is difficult. However, let us look at how many, or rather how few, Bugattis have been produced since 1998.

Here’s how many Bugattis that has been produced of each model:

How Many Bugatti Veyrons Have Been Made?

The first Bugatti Veyron debuted in 2005. Since unveiling the first Veyron, several variations have been designed and sold. The Veyron is no longer in production, as the last Veyron variation, the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, was sold in 2015.

Over ten years, Bugatti produced four hundred and fifty Veyrons sold worldwide. The table below displays how many cars were made for each Veyron model.

Veyron Grand Sport58
Veyron Super Sport48

How Many Bugatti Chirons Are There In The World?

  • Cars Produced: 500

The Bugatti Chiron is the Veyron’s successor. The first Chiron was unveiled in 2016, a year after the last Veyron was sold. Bugatti stated that the brand would build no more than five hundred Bugatti Chirons in total; this includes the different Chiron variations and special edition models like the Super Sport 300+.

Bugatti confirmed in 2022 that all five hundred Chirons had been sold; however, as of October 2022, some cars still need to be built and delivered. The starting price for a Bugatti Chiron was three million dollars.

How Many Bugatti Centodieci Are There In The World?

  • Cars Produced: 10

For those who thought that producing five hundred Chirons was little, the Bugatti Centodieci, first unveiled to the world in 2020, has been limited to just ten units.

The exclusivity of the Centodieci takes it to a new level, making it extremely attractive to massively wealthy car collectors. The soccer superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has reportedly bought one of the ten Centodieci cars.

Unsurprisingly, the Centodieci model is already sold, and customers can expect to receive their precious cars, priced at eight million dollars, to be delivered by the end of 2022.

How Many Bugatti La Voiture Noire Are There In The World?

  • Cars Produced: 1

Bugatti is known for designing and making special edition cars. However, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire takes the meaning of exclusivity to a whole different level.

Only one Bugatti La Voiture Noire exists, selling for eighteen million dollars in 2019. Unfortunately, the buyer’s identity is unknown, but rumors suggest that it could be Cristiano Ronaldo (soccer player) or Ferdinand Piech (former Volkswagen Group chairman).

At one point, this was the most expensive car in the world. To this day, this one-of-a-kind Bugatti remains the most expensive Bugatti ever sold at eighteen million dollars.

How Many Bugatti Bolides Are There In The World?

  • Cars Produced: 40

The Bugatti Bolide is a track-only hypercar that is currently in production. The Bolide is considered one of the luxury brand’s most radical models.

A total of forty Bugatti Bolides have been sold, but the owners will have to wait until 2024 to receive them. Bugatti Bolides owners had to spend nearly five million dollars on their cars. With a top speed of 311 mph, it will be the fastest Bugatti ever produced.

Can Anyone Buy A Bugatti?

All Bugatti owners act as ambassadors for the brand, and that’s why everyone can’t buy a Bugatti. Clients are chosen by the company, and not the other way around. It’s better described as a business deal rather than a car purchase.

Other luxury car brands, like Ferrari, can make it even more difficult for people to get their hands on one of their cars even if they have the money to afford it. In the case of Ferrari, the brand wants the owner of a Ferrari to be more than just a customer; they need to be part of the family Ferrari.

Ferrari owners who do not show enough interest in Ferrari as a brand or decide to customize their car will be cut from the Ferrari family and no longer be allowed to buy Ferrari cars.

In the case of Bugatti, the brand does not appear to have as strict of a ‘family’ approach as Ferrari does with its customers. However, potential customers are screened by Bugatti to make sure that they are legitimate and have the necessary wealth to buy one of their cars.

The luxury sports brand does make the necessary efforts to build a relationship with its customers. Bugatti will invite customers to the factory and offer them to test drive their cars. However, if you would break the car during the test drive, you’ll need to buy it.
