This calculator allows you to convert between horsepower and torque units.
To get started, simply input a value and select whether you want to convert horsepower to torque units, or vice versa. Don’t forget to enter the RPM too!
Once you’ve got all your information entered, go ahead and hit the “Calculate” button. The calculator will then take care of the rest.
That’s all there is to it! In just a few easy steps, you’ll be able to convert between horsepower and torque units with ease.
How To Convert Horsepower & Torque
Horsepower and torque are both measurements of an engines power. While horsepower describes the power or work it can do under a certain period of time, torque measures an engines ability to perform work in a single instant.
To convert horsepower to torque (use my calculator above), you need to know know the RPM of the engine.
The formula to convert horsepower to torque is the following:
- Torque (lb-ft) = Horsepower * 5252 / RPM
If you want to convert the other way around, torque to horsepower, the following formula can be used:
- Horsepower = Torque (lb-ft) * RPM / 5252
The constant 5252 is used to convert horsepower and torque, hence they can be utilized in the same formula, resulting in a consistent measure of power.
It is important to note that horsepower and torque are interdependent, meaning that changes in one can affect the other. For example, increasing the RPM will increase horsepower, but it will also decrease torque, and vice versa.
I also made a calculator that converts horsepower to MPH (estimation), you can check out the calculator here.
